Courtney Potts

At 28, criminal justice major Courtney Potts manages a 4.0 GPA while working full-time and raising two children. In addition to her studies, she serves as a court advocate for a domestic violence center, a role fueled by her personal journey as a survivor. For Courtney, this scholarship provides more than just financial relief from the costs of education; she told MTSU News it feels like a vital push to keep moving forward. After she graduates from MTSU, she intends to enroll in law school and eventually serve as an attorney for a domestic violence and sexual assault center.

For 30-year-old criminal justice major Jackie Kannady, the road to graduation was nearly sidelined by financial hurdles. However, drawing inspiration from her grandmother’s resilience, Jackie is now on track to complete her bachelor’s degree this December. She shared with MTSU News that this support has been life-changing, providing the necessary “purpose and motivation” to cross the finish line. After graduation, Jackie aims to dedicate her career to public service, either as a caseworker with the Department of Children’s Services or as a special victims detective.

Esther credits the supportive environment at MTSU for helping her flourish. She shared with MTSU News that this recognition serves as a powerful motivator, confirming that her dedication to excelling academically is opening doors for her future career in aviation.

At 29, Sydnee Sommers is a “California-raised surfer” who has traded the coast for a future in the beef cattle industry. While managing three jobs and a rigorous animal science degree, Sydnee has remained dedicated to her place in the agricultural world. For her, this scholarship is more than financial aid; it represents a commitment to the 2% of the population responsible for feeding the nation. She shared with MTSU News that she is humbled to be recognized as part of the next generation of American farmers supported by the foundation.
